'Red Handed' doesn't fall easily into any single category; Glover mixes it up here with some gritty blues, soulful rock and a liberal taste of nu-country. The real common denominator with Gillian Glover is the total commitment to quality - from the moment the pen hits the paper to wrapping it all up in the studio everything's treated with total professionalism and attention to detail. What becomes absolutely clear as you work your way through the eleven tracks is that Gillian Glover is a new solo artist positively glowing with natural talent and positivity. 'Red Handed' no-way sounds like a debut work; it's superbly crafted with everything superbly rounded and styled to make it quite an exceptional piece of work. Glover has a pretty powerful vocal delivery but is able to tone it down when necessary in order to bring out just the right degree of emotion - she's got 'balls', sentiment, style and massive, massive potential!
Glover has assembled a band with massive individual experience and impressive pedigrees to assist on 'Red Handed'; Woody Woodmansey (drummer ex David Bowie/Spiders From Mars), Rod Melvin (pianist ex Ian Dury), Claus Bohling (guitarist for Donovan), Michael Giaquinto (bassist for Vice Squad) and Pete Dixon (guitarist for The Morgans). What's more, Glover calls on three renowned arrangers to look after the string arrangements; Paul Buckmaster, Joe Mennonna and Don Airey. Methinks this gal means business!! And, her work fully deserves the commitment and input of such 'big names'; Gillian Glover has something very special indeed and hopefully 'Red Handed' is just the start of many similarly impressive things to come.
As I listen to this album unfold I'm actually pretty amazed at the high standards achieved here - 'Red Handed' a work of pure class, an album of songs sung from the heart and with stunning attention to detail - 'Red Handed' by Gillian Glover is stunning, beautiful and simply divine!!
